Katherine Bradford denkt immer aus der Farbe heraus, die Farbe ist Ausgangs- und Endpunkt ihrer Arbeit. Hier verbinden sich abstrakte und figurative Zugänge, hier verbindet sich das Individuelle mit dem Gemeinschaftlichen, darin liegt die Schnittmenge, die in jeder einzelnen Arbeit neu untersucht und formuliert wird. Besonders in der Darstellung von Gemeinschaften und ihres sozialen Zusammenhalts kommt der Farbe ob ihrer direkten, kruden und darin grundsätzlichen Kraft, Ausstrahlung und Potentialität eine besondere Bedeutung zu. Mit Farbe und Gemeinschaft verbindet die Künstlerin noch eine weitere starke Assoziation, die von ihr sehr geschätzte Gemeinschaft der Künstler:innen, die sich fortlaufend um die Malerei und ihre Geschichte und Geschichten sammelt. Bradford setzt diese drei Begriffe gewissermaßen gleich – Gemeinschaft, Malerei und Farbe –, und damit ist viel über ihren künstlerischen Zugang gesagt, der aus der Abgeschiedenheit der täglichen Arbeit im Atelier heraus immer ihre Welt im Blick hat, und daran im Feld der Malerei und mit ihren Mitteln arbeitet. – Sandro Droschl, Kurator

Diego Bianchi‘s großformatige und immersive skulpturale Installationen interpretieren den Begriff der Plastik und des Torsos neu, indem er den unter mannigfaltigem Druck stehenden menschlichen Körper in seiner Sensibilität und Bedrängnis ernst nimmt und dessen Darstellung überarbeitet.

Celina Eceizas Werk wächst aus einer fast organischen, metabolischen Kraft heraus und umfasst Textilcollagen, Skulpturen, Malerei und Zeichnungen – mal winzig, mal monumental – gleichermaßen aufwendig wie elementar. Die Künstlerin verbindet handwerkliche Textiltechniken wie Patchwork und Collagen aus Fundstücken mit jüngsten Experimenten in Kreidepastellen, die ihren Bildern neue Fluidität verleihen.

Für die HALLE FÜR KUNST Steiermark entwickelt Annemarie Arzberger in ihrer performativen Präsentation zum ersten Mal ein eigenes Stück und so zugleich ein Setting für ihre Puppen mit drei Szenen, das in einem imaginären Raumschiff spielt, eine Ausstellung umfasst sowie die Räumlichkeiten, das drei Szenen vorgeben: das Schlouflaboar, das Houloudeck und die Space-Grotten-Disco. Bei dem Stück handelt es sich um eine Kombination aus Körper- und Puppentheater, welches die Künstlerin gemeinsam mit ihrer Schwester Katharina Arzberger aufführt und das mit musikalischen Momenten, arrangiert von Manuel Obriejtan, unterstützt wird.

Diego Bianchi (*1969 Buenos Aires, lebt in Buenos Aires) gilt als eine der zentralen künstlerischen Positionen Argentiniens und hat insbesondere den Begriff der Skulptur aktualisiert. Für seine installative und performative Ausstellung Errores Irreales in der HALLE FÜR KUNST Steiermark versammelt Bianchi eine Auswahl seiner mit dem Körperbegriff spielenden Skulpturen.

Ofrenda [Geschenk] eröffnet einen einzigartigen Zugang zum Raum: Hier wird Architektur wie ein atmender, lebendiger Körper erfahrbar, der seinen Zustand verändert, während man von einem Raum in den nächsten geht. Die Starre des Gebäudes löst sich auf, sobald die Wände mit tausenden Metern Stoff behängt werden, die durch kollektives, zeitloses Nähen miteinander verbunden sind und eine einzige, glatte, empfindliche Oberfläche bilden, die auf die kleinste Veränderung reagieren kann.

Das Gespräch zwischen Abaseh Mirvali, Direktorin der viennacontemporary, und Sandro Droschl, spannt einen Bogen von Diego Bianchis aktueller Ausstellung und Celina Eceizas Werk im Kontext der argentinischen Kunstgeschichte hin zu Mirvalis langjähriger Expertise und ihrem internationalen Werdegang.
