Text
Franz Kapfer’s artist’s book is being published as part of the exhibition Ich oder das Chaos and can be seen as a reflection and representation of the artist’s current work. Kapfer, who was awarded the Province of Styria’s Appreciation Prize for visual arts in 2022, will be shown at the HALLE FÜR KUNST Steiermark in summer 2024, where one of the central groups will be the newly realized group of works entitled Atlases. The publication addresses his interest in historical and contemporary symbols of the representation of power and at the same time shows his interest in research, the research process and accompanying as well as inspiring journeys.
The renowned curator and author Roger M. Buergel has been familiar with Kapfer’s work for a long time through mutual exchange. He wrote the text for this publication. The artist’s book is also characterized by some special features in terms of material and format: For example, the graphics designed by the artist are printed as risoprints, a type of screen print that was produced by hand for the edition. The artist’s posters are obtained by unfolding the image pages.
