Art, Awkwardness and Enthusiasm 

is an independent curator and art critic based in Paris. She has curated exhibitions worldwide and is known for her special interest in social issues and in constructing a storyline through an exhibition. This approach is evident in projects such as the 9th Busan Biennale, Divided We Stand, South Korea (2018), where Ricupero served as artistic director, together with Jörg Heiser; We Never Sleep, Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt (2020 – 21); The Crime Was Almost Perfect, Witte de With in Rotterdam and PAC-Milan (2014); and Secret Societies, Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt and CAPC de Bordeaux (2011 – 12).

is an art critic, curator, and university lecturer. At the University of the Arts in Berlin, he is Director of the Institute for Art in Context. For twenty years he worked as an editor for frieze magazine. His books include All of a Sudden: Things That Matter in Contemporary Art (2008) and Double Lives in Art and Pop Music (2019). Since 2004, he has curated numerous group exhibitions, including Romantic Conceptualism, Kunsthalle Nuremberg and BAWAG Foundation, Vienna (2007); in 2018 he was co-curator, with artistic director Cristina Ricupero, of the Busan Biennale in South Korea. His most recently published book is Freiheit ist kein Bild (Freedom Is Not a Picture, 2021); the reader Das Recht auf Erinnerung und die Realität der Städte (Public Art: The Right to Remember and the Reality of Cities), co-edited with Andreas Wissen, is forthcoming from Distanz in 2022.
