On the occasion of the exhibition A.rtificial I.ntrospection O, we would like to visit the show together and discuss Oswald Wiener, artificial intelligence, and art, with the aim of producing material for a radio program.
The exhibition A.I.O. is dedicated to the thought of the writer and cyberneticist Oswald Wiener, who engaged intensively with consciousness, self-observation, and the limits of artificial intelligence. Building on Wiener’s critique of behaviorist models such as the Turing Test formulated by Alan Turing, the exhibition explores the relationship between humans, language, and machines, as well as the question of how subjective consciousness remains experiential and representable under cybernetic conditions. Wiener’s theoretical and literary works serve as a starting point for contemporary artistic positions that reflect on self-perception, automation, and algorithmic systems. Art appears here not as the antithesis of technology, but as a field of comparable translation and coding processes. Against the backdrop of increasing AI-supported communication and societal automation, the exhibition understands self-observation as a political and epistemic practice that critically questions the relationship between body, language, and technological systems.
