Workshop
Even while the exhibitions of the two young painters Louise Giovanelli and Evelyn Plaschg are running, we would like to visit them once again together and, in a relaxed atmosphere, talk about their suggestive imagery and current themes. These conversations will form the basis for a radio broadcast.
The British-Italian artist Louise Giovanelli presents in her exhibition A Song of Ascents luminous, atmospherically dense paintings that seek — and ultimately assert — their form between reality and fantasy. Her works depict mysterious scenes full of ambiguity, often featuring female characters in emotionally charged, liminal states. Inspired by music and film, she transforms social spaces such as British working men’s clubs into stages for empowerment and sensuality. Rich in detail, her paintings use vibrant color and classical techniques to create an aesthetic tension between ecstasy and unease.
Evelyn Plaschg shows new works in her first institutional solo exhibition Viscous City, tracing her development from figural, body-focused painting toward a more object- and space-oriented practice. Drawing on smartphone images, she translates intimate, digitally influenced scenes and urban environments into dense, atmospheric compositions that oscillate between abstraction and figuration. Her works explore themes of staging, intimacy, and spatial presence in urban settings, unfolding within an installative hanging that evokes cinematic rhythm and structure.
Following what is usually a very productive exchange, a radio program will be produced and broadcast on Radio Helsinki.
