Donna Haraway
Story Telling for Earthly Survival
Film screening
Donna Haraway is one of the most important feminist thinkers and historians of science of our time. Her writings radically scrutinize established thought patterns and “common sense,” dissolving constructed boundaries of gender, humans and technology as well as culture and nature. Fabrizio Terranova has made a playful documentary film about Haraway, her biography, influences and ideas, which takes us on a journey through her world of thought. Over the course of several weeks, filmmaker Fabrizio Terranova visited her and her dog Cayenne at their home in Southern California and captured their conversations on camera. In the film, Haraway not only demonstrates her special talent for creating stories, but also paints a radically positive picture of the future that can inspire hope. In addition to the interviews, the film also consists of archive material and imaginative green screen animations, which translate the thinking of this exceptional theorist into the format of a documentary film in an appropriately idiosyncratic way.
