College for Fashion /MOG (Fashion School Graz) 

We cordially invite you to a presentation in cooperation of textile positions with the Kolleg für Mode /MOG ( Modeschule Graz) on 14.11.2024 at 6pm! The presentation is the result of a joint workshop on the occasion of Mathias Poledna’s exhibition.

Mathias Poledna examines pop-cultural phenomena through references to art-history, fashion and music history. A central theme in his work is the ways in which aspects of modernity manifest themselves again and again in an in a wide variety of articulations across different disciplines.

In this collaboration with the Graz Fashion School, students are given the opportunity to reflect on the complex relationships between fashion, art and architecture on the basis of the exhibition and ultimately to design a piece of clothing or parts of a clothing that will be presented at HALLE FÜR KUNST Steiermark.

First, in a joint tour, the students will explore the central themes of the exhibitions around modernism, modernity, the artist’s conceptual approach to modernity, and the fast pace of the art market. Mathias Poledna’s own position as a former student at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna will also be reflected upon, as he can also be seen as an expert in design himself. In particular, students will be given the opportunity to think beyond their own discipline and establish links between the history of fashion, art, film and architecture. Where can similar connections be found, and how has fashion – alongside music, film, art and architecture – repeatedly shaped society? What interactions exist here?

Finally, the students can present their garment in a presentation of the foyer at HALLE FÜR KUNST Steiermark. In addition, the entire collection will be archived in a portfolio presentation to be realized at a later date and also exhibited in the foyer of HALLE FÜR KUNST Steiermark
