STAGES is a recurring format that offers young artists from Graz and Styria a stage for the duration of one evening. The HALLE FÜR KUNST Steiermark thus serves as a platform for artists from the immediate vicinity to show their work to a wider audience.

The setting is an intimate studio situation with a small audience stage situated in front of a white wall and a microphone ready to be used. Lights on, camera running, and off we go: be it discursive (Image and reflection), poetic (Dear painter paint me) or applied (Ton Steine Scherben / German progressive band, clay stones shards), our guests can decide on the medium of their choice, be it a performance, a lecture, a conversation or a screening.

Using painting as an object of knowledge, Lisa Slawitz is producing an alternative, visceral truth. Her practice focuses on the perception of mental and physical states; creating portraits of protagonists enrapt by experience. Slawitz is interested in psychology both in terms of the individual as well as the collective consciousness. She observes and reflects on themes such as relationships and sexuality within a patriarchal society, scrutinizing unconscious patterns, the simultaneity of emotions and both intersubjective and interobjective relationships in relation to herself.

The intervention starts at 6 p.m. at HALLE FÜR KUNST Steiermark followed by time for drinks and conversation. The work Signing Reality, flat (2022), presented as part of STAGES can be seen from April 12 to 14 in the foyer of the HALLE FÜR KUNST.
