This chapter takes us back to the origins of enthusiastic awkwardness in art, which found its first peak in the collages, performances and puns of the international DADA movement, also known as anti-art movement. In a humorous, provocative and sometimes scandalous way, DADA questioned the foundations of art and paved the way for new forms of artistic expression. By means of the creative use of words, images and sounds, new forms of representation were created and conventional artistic and linguistic conventions were undermined. As can be seen in the exhibition, the works do not exhibit a uniform style, but are characterized by their rejection of traditional values and their joy in experimentation.
During the tour, the chapter DADA and its realization in the HALLE FÜR KUNST and the Neue Galerie will be explored through selected artistic positions, and the curatorial and design concept will be explained. Here we encounter, for example, masked jesters in Pieter Bruegel the Elder’s and Georg Anton Gumpp’s works or a socio-critical stove woman by Hanna Höch.
The tour begins at 5 p.m. at Neue Galerie Graz and continues afterwards at HALLE FÜR KUNST.
