Wiener’s music is also featured in the exhibition. In Team of Jeremy Roth, West Dawson, Yukon Territory, visitors can hear field recordings that Wiener together with Helmut Schoener made of the nighttime howls of Canadian sled dogs. In Wichtel und die Wuchteln: Hämchen Hämchen und Wuchtel und die Wichtel: Wunderschöner junger Mann, Wiener combines a double quartet by the Alpenland Mariazell men’s choir with a song by Lucyna & Megumi. Contributors include Rosa Barba, Klaus Sander, Anja Theismann, Jan St. Werner, and Ingrid Wiener. The experimental music project Selten gehörte Musik (Rare Music) emerged in 1973 from informal meetings with Günter Brus, Gerhard Rühm, Dieter Roth, Dominik Steiger, Hermann Nitsch, and others. The outcome of this exploration is an aesthetic of failure in the tradition of the Vienna Group. TOTE RENNEN – Lieder was recorded with Dieter Roth in Iceland. The recording features a conversation accompanied by piano, in which they reflect on their respective practices. While Roth’s strategy consists of taking Wiener’s theoretical distinctions literally, Wiener pursues the details of Roth’s practice to the point where his image of him shifts and becomes distorted.
