Katherine Bradford – American Odyssey
New works
Slide show
Katherine Bradford’s thinking always begins with color — it is the start and end point of her work. Here abstract and figurative approaches merge. Here the individual and the communal join. This is the common ground that is explored and formulated anew in every work. Especially in her representations of communities, the direct, crude, and fundamental power, radiance, and potential of color has great significance. The artist further strongly associates color and community with the community of artists that assembles constantly around painting and its histories and stories. In Bradford’s practice, the three terms community, painting, and color act more or less as synonyms, which says much about her artistic work that proceeds from the solitude of daily labor always to gaze at her world, and to work on this with her means in the field of painting. – Sandro Droschl, curator
